Milestones and Achievements

History

The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at COOU has made significant strides since its inception. Our journey began in December 2016, and we have achieved several important milestones that underscore our commitment to academic and professional excellence:

– Full Accreditation from NUC: We have received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC), ensuring that our programs meet the highest standards of quality and relevance.

– Full Accreditation from the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN): Our faculty is also fully accredited by the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, validating the integrity and rigor of our pharmacy education.

– Maiden Induction of Pioneer Students: In April 2023, we celebrated the induction of our pioneer students, marking the beginning of a legacy of excellence.

– Second Induction Ceremony: In October 2023, we conducted our second induction ceremony, welcoming a new cohort of graduates into the pharmacy profession.

– Successful Graduation of First Set of Pharmacists: In 2023, we proudly graduated our first set of pharmacists, setting a high standard for future cohorts.

– Second Induction of 142 Pharmacists: Our second induction ceremony in October 2023 marked the successful graduation of 142 pharmacists from our faculty.

– National Recognition: One of our students emerged third in the 2024 Shalina Young Talent Awards at the national level, showcasing the talent and dedication within our faculty.

 

 Future Targets

We are continually striving to expand our horizons and enhance our educational offerings. Our future targets include:

– Diploma in Herbal Medicine and Nutrition: We aim to introduce a diploma program in Herbal Medicine and Nutrition, reflecting our commitment to integrating traditional and modern medical practices.

– Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D) Program: We are working towards the establishment of a Doctor of Pharmacy program to provide advanced professional training for aspiring pharmacists.

– Post-Graduate Programs: Our plans include the introduction of Masters and PhD programs to foster research and advanced studies in pharmaceutical sciences.

Mission and Philosophy

Mission Statement

Our mission is to create an adequate and conducive standard environment for the training of pharmacists who are to be endowed with the global best practices in all ramifications of pharmacy practice. We are dedicated to producing well-rounded professionals who are capable of making significant contributions to the healthcare sector both locally and globally.

 

Philosophy/Values

The philosophy of our B.Pharm program is to produce pharmacists who are not only well knowledgeable in all areas of pharmacy practice but can also compete favorably with their colleagues globally. Our graduates are prepared to become excellent patient and product-oriented pharmacists who uphold the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct.

 

Admission Requirements and Procedures

 

Non-Graduate/Undergraduate Admissions

Entry into our undergraduate programs is through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (UTME/JAMB) and Direct Entry for the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) results.

 

UTME (JAMB)

Candidates seeking admission to the five-year program through UTME must possess a minimum entry requirement of five Ordinary level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics obtained in not more than two sittings, in addition to a satisfactory performance in the UTME score. A screening examination may also be conducted.

 

Direct Entry (JAMB)

 

Candidates seeking admission to the four-year program by Direct Entry should possess a good first degree with second class upper and above in related disciplines or must possess Advanced level passes in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or Botany or Zoology with credits in English Language and Mathematics at the Ordinary level. The passes at the advanced level must be obtained in not more than two sittings. A screening examination may also be conducted.

 

Candidates with satisfactory points at the Joint University Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) are also eligible for Direct Entry admission.

 

Admission Deferment, Transfer, and Registration Procedures

 

Transfers are allowed into the 200 level and not into the 100 level of the program. Transfer candidates must have passed the courses relevant to Pharmacy at the 100 level with a GPA of 4.0 and above. The O-level requirements must be obtained at not more than one sitting.

It aims to integrate traditional knowledge with modern scientific approaches to promote holistic healthcare.
